Strengthening Taiwan-Ukraine Medical Partnership — Ukrainian Multi-City Mayoral Delegation Visits Ma
Since 2023, MacKay Memorial Hospital has actively carried out medical missions to Ukraine, completing six missions to date across fifteen cities and serving approximately 2,300 patients in total. In addition to direct medical services, MacKay has fostered ongoing physician exchange programs, inviting Ukrainian specialists to MacKay for clinical training. On March 16, 2026, a delegation of 14 representatives led by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Syenkevych visited MacKay Memorial Hospital for an in-depth exchange on medical cooperation, wartime healthcare resilience, and future collaboration.
The delegation included representatives from across southern, eastern, western, and central Ukraine: Uzhhorod Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv and Vice Mayor Vadym Borets; Bucha First Deputy Mayor Dmytro Cheichuk; Lviv Director of Digital Transformation Olena Hunko; Vinnytsia Deputy Mayor Andrii Ocheretnyi; Dnipro City Secretary Oleksandr Sanzhara; and Association of Ukrainian Cities Center Director Yuliia Bandura, among others. MacKay Memorial Hospital was represented by Vice Superintendents Chien Ting-Kuo and Chen Yu-Jen, alongside International Medical Services Center Director Dr. Weide Tsai, Dr. Yen En-Ze of the Department of Dentistry, and the full IMSC team.
In his welcome remarks, Vice Superintendent Chien Ting-Kuo reaffirmed MacKay's guiding spirit — "to go wherever there is need" — and expressed the hospital's unwavering commitment to the people of Ukraine. Delegation leader Mayor Syenkevych expressed heartfelt gratitude for MacKay's continued support, noting in particular that the MacKay team's decision to return to Ukraine following a drone strike on their hotel in Mykolaiv in April 2024 had deeply moved the Ukrainian side. He expressed hope that this visit would lead to more concrete collaboration in prosthetics, rehabilitation, and surgical care for wounded soldiers and civilians.
In addition to presentations on MacKay's institutional history, clinical achievements, and international medical services, both sides engaged in substantive discussions on the outcomes of MacKay's six Ukraine missions, wartime hospital resilience measures — including air-raid shelters, independent water and heating systems, and solar energy storage — and emergency department information systems. Following the meeting, the delegation toured the Radiology Department, Pediatric and Obstetric outpatient clinics, the Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Emergency Department. Delegates expressed strong interest in MacKay's emergency information systems and clinical workflow design, and indicated their hope to bring these experiences back to Ukraine. MacKay Memorial Hospital confirmed that its seventh Ukraine medical mission is scheduled for April 2026, reaffirming its enduring commitment to the health and wellbeing of the Ukrainian people.
